Toyama Seiko Sensei, Hanshi Judan, Founder and Owner of the Okinawa KarateDo UechiRyu Zankai, passed away peacefully in his home in Zakimi, Okinawa, on Friday 10 April 2009 at 05:41. He was 81 years old.
Toyama Sensei was one of the great living legends of Okinawan karate and a personal student of Kanbun Uechi. While I never had the chance to meet the man, in conversations with one of his senior students, it was repeatedly conveyed to me that Toyama Sensei was a man of modesty, integrity, and peace. He will be missed.
