I've had an idea about e-budo.com and a possible feature that might be really useful. See what people think.

Fairly predictably, people's useage of japanese (and often chinese, korean, etc) on the board is pretty heavy. Now, as someone who only knows so much japanese, it'd be great if the site featured some kind of glossary or translator - otherwise it's dificult to understand some of the threads, especially the ones in styles I'm not familiar with.

What might make it very cool is if, when you post, the board automatically enhances japanese words by making it a link to a translation. Would that be useful to other people as well?

It would be great idea for me, as well, Steve, but what to put in a glossary is the question. Probably a link to another site which does the translation for you would be a big help. I've been involved in JMA for a long time, and I still have trouble with even the easiest of words.

In the meantime, there is a site someone turned me on to which can "tutor" or teach you Japanese from the beginner's level to tourist questions, and also has an online dictionary.

Problem one, though, which translation? Words fly around in here like flies to s***, and the arguments over the use of the simplest of terms can be well, arguable.

The site is, though, if you are interested, though you may know it, is: http://www.japanesetutor.com . Check it out!

Mark

BTW: I think you have a good idea, especially the link thingy.

Yeah, you're right. I think there are some basics, though, that everyone could agree on. Words like Kata, Shodan, and Tsuki.

BTW, I tried one of the J-E dictionaries you suggested. I tried 'ne-waza' - It translated it as 'nature trail'. Hmmm. Just what _are_ you Judo guys getting up to?

There are some good MA related glossaries on the web...

http://www.kendo.de.eu.org/dictionary/
http://www.callisto.junglelink.co.uk/Index.htm
http://www.bushido-online.com/dictionary/index.htm
http://homes.acmecity.com/animation/oilpastel/159/m_art_glossary.htm

There are many more, just search on google if you want one for a specific non-japanese art.

I have one that I put together, I can e-mail it to you if you'd like.

Regards

Neil

Thanks for the glossaries! I've bookmarked the lot.

Once again, Thanks.
