It's nice to see stories, referring to judo self defense, which can do more than teach survival in a tournament, but it also makes me rethink my opinion on age restrictions in judo. Childhood goes by quickly enough, without rules restricting freedom of movement with the largest minority in the world: children

I remember my teacher bringing in a small, almost invisable article from the newspaper to show the class of about thirty (actually two classes), and then described the contents of it with the story of how one of our own had foiled a bank robbery, and that he was "a judo expert."

That term is debatable, but probably not to the people scared to death by a man with a gun. Vanity may be the devil's favorite sin, but listening to my teacher tell the story in slow deliberate words couldn't hide the pride he had that day. He never made announcements such as that for the winners in a tournament. He may announce when, but never the results. This one was a winner.
