21st June 2000, 15:50
Due to conflicts in scheduling, the Beikoku Rembukan will hold its annual fall Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo Gasshuku the weekend of October 27 through 29th. As usual Kaminoda Tsunemori Sensei (Menkyo Kaiden) and Osato Sensei (Menkyo Kaiden) of the Nihon Jodokai will be attending this event with several other senior Jodo teachers from Japan.

The venue will be the same as that of last year's…..the scenic Cotoctin mountains of Northern Maryland which are only minutes from Camp David and Gettysburg National Park. The Gasshuku will focus on the art of Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo and the associated arts of Kasumi Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu, Uchida Ryu Tanjojutsu, Ikkaku Ryu Juttejutsu, Ittatsu Ryu Hojojutsu and Isshin Ryu Kusarigamajutsu.

We would like to invite all of those who are interested in these arts to attend this event. Please mark your calendar and note the change in dates. This is our 5th consecutive year and we expect a dynamic attendance. Additional information and details will be announced soon.

Thank you,
Jerry O'Brien

Hello Everyone:

We are now accepting registrations for our annual fall Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo Gasshuku with Kaminoda Tsunemori Sensei (Menkyo Kaiden Hanshi, Hachidan). The venue will be the same as that of last year's…the scenic Cotoctin Mountains of Northern Maryland, which close to Gettysburg National Park.

Arrival and on site registration will begin on Friday, October 27 with training all day Saturday and Sunday. There will be a grading session on Monday the 30th, for those who are qualified and interested in receiving a certificate from Kaminoda Sensei. These grades are not dan grades and we must know in advance of your desire to test, as no walk-ons will be accepted. We will be providing more information about this in the near future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaminoda Sensei is the senior instructor of the Nihon Jodokai and has the following credentials:

· Jodo Menkyo Kaiden with All teaching licenses in the associated arts of Ikkaku Ryu Juttejutsu, Ittatsu Ryu Hojojutsu Uchida Ryu Tanjojutsu, Isshin Ryu Kusarigamajutsu and Kasumi Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu. Kaminoda Sensei is also a Hachidan, Hanshi in Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido.

· Mr. Kaminoda began his training in Jodo under the 25th generation headmaster of Shindo Muso Ryu, Shimizu Takaji who awarded him Menkyo Kaiden. Along with his seniors’, Yoneo and Hiroii Sensei, he remains the senior-most active instructor of this line.

· Mr. Kaminoda was the senior (Jodo) instructor and longest active member of the 4th division Special Police.

· He is best known as the co-author of the authoritative book "Jodo Kyohan, Shindo Muso Ryu Master Text" (1st Edit. 1976) which was written with senior authors, Shimizu, Otofuji and Nakajima Sensei.

· Under the direction of his teacher Shimizu Sensei, Mr. Kaminoda established the curricula (Seitei Kata) used for ranking and testing by the Zen Nihon Kendo Remei. Of historical note, Osato Sensei, who is a senior deshi and Menkyo Kaiden under Kaminoda Sensei, first demonstrated these 12 kata for instructional purposes before ZNKR grading committee. (Osato Sensei will also be joining us at the Cotoctin seminar.)

Gasshuku Registration
This is our 6th consecutive year and we expect a dynamic attendance from both here and Japan. Please reserve your space EARLY. The price for this event is $290, which includes lodging for the whole event, meals and test fees through Chuden level. Additional information and forms are available online at our website (Jodo.com) or by contacting the JODO Camp Administrator, Tom Calabrese at Tel: 410-762-1140 (days)

Weapons
A limited number of weapons (Jo & Boken) will be available for sale at the event. Please let us know EARLY if you would like to reserve weapons.

The Book
The Jodo Kyohan by Kaminoda Tsunemori et al. is available and may be obtained
directly through Mr. Rick Polland (rembukan@annap.infi.net), who is the Rembukan Kancho of the Beikoku Rembukan - the sanctioned Shindo Muso Ryu dojo within North America for Kaminoda Sensei and the Nihon Jodokai. We are now taking advance orders for this book in lieu of Kaminoda Sensei's visit in October. Proceeds from the sale of these books will be used to help support the costs of our upcoming visit and Gasshuku with Kaminoda Sensei.

We try to offer high quality training with a “hands on” approach and a high teacher-student ratio to all attendees. Further, we try to ensure that every participant gets as much individual attention as is possible. We will therefore limit class size accordingly.

As there are some logistical concerns about getting to the mountains before dark, we will really need to know everyone's travel arrangements in advance.

We hope that anyone interested in the Way of the Stick will check this opportunity out.

Regards.....

I attended last year as a complete novice, and had a wonderful time. Everyone was very helpful and understanding with my overeager attempts. I've already gotten permission from "da boss" (as she controls the checkbook) to come in October, and can't wait!

Last call for the Rembukan Dojos annual fall seminar with Kaminoda Tsunemori Menkyo Kaiden, Hanshi, Hachidan and Osato Kyohei, Menkyo Kaiden, Kyoshi, Hachidan and Yamaguchi Mitsuhiro Menkyo, Kyoshi, Nanadan, as well as other members of the Nihon Jodo Kai.

Although this is primarily a JODO seminar, there is likely to be a demonstration of the two new ZNKR Iaido Kata that will go into effect next year. (Kaminoda Sensei is an Iaido Hanshi, Hachidan and many of the other members of the Nihon Jodo Kai hold either Kyoshi or Renshi title in Iaido as well.) We have also heard that besides JODO that there might be some Kusarigamajutsu thrown in.

This is the final week that we will be accepting both registrants and reserve deposits, as we need to finalize arrangements with the caterer and with the facility.

PLEASE ACT NOW!!! We don’t want to turn away interested parties because of no-shows so please be considerate.

The registration form can be found on the website: http://www.jodo.com

For all of you who will be arriving on Friday the 27th, we will be hosting a short reception at the BWI Marriot hospitality suite with Kaminoda Sensei from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. If you are arriving by air, please try to arrive in time to meet Sensei before we all head up to the mountains. The Marriot shuttle will bring you directly to the hotel. If you will be driving, we would prefer that you congregate at the BWI Marriot first. If this should be too much inconvenience and you plan to go directly to the Camp, please do not arrive before 4:30 PM. (The Thurmont MacDonald's is a real "MUST SEE"....;)

Everyone should have by now advised Tom Calabrese of his or her itinerary so that we can best plan the travel arrangements to and from the Camp. (Tel: 410-762-1140 (days)
Email: tcalabrese@mic-usa.com)

This has always been a fun and earnest seminar. BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME.
