It has come to my attention that Sato Shizuya sadly passed away last Friday.

Yes, he'd been ill a long time, but was still active until recently.

We all learned a lot from him.

We'll miss him.

He was one of our sensei at the 1961 SAC-ARDC school at the Kodokan. I remember him. R.I.P. Sato-San

Sato Sensei was a bridge to a legendary age, having trained with the likes of Kyuzo Mifune and Hironori Otsuka.

During my time with IMAF, although I didn't always like the way the association was run, I valued his methodical approach to Jujutsu and still find myself picking up his book.

RIP Sato Sensei.

It's hard to see the "old guard" go, even if we know that this will eventually have to happen. May Mr. Sato Rest In Peace.
