In this clip Nagata Sensei performs a series of hokei including 'Dokkoken'. The comments on You Tube correctly state that Dokkoken is no longer taught.

Questions:-

When was it dropped and why was it dropped?
Has anyone ever seen it, been taught it or come across a description of it?

Gassho!

Interesting. It looks very similar to some Shotokan kata I've seen …

I do not know when it was not taught officially any more, but there is no mention of it (as far as I can see) in the Kyohan (the 1979 edition), I also couldn't see anything regarding it in the reprint of the first edition of Kyohan (early 50s). My guess would be way before Kaiso passed away.

I have been taught dokkoken a few times, most senior teachers do know it (in my experience) but it isn't practised very often.

It is not that uncommon though that one see it in some demos.

Here are a few examples, with some small variations, I found with just some quick browsing through Youtube.

As one can see these are all slightly different, maybe because they in these clips are part of jiyuu tandoku embu or just because there isn't any official way to do this nowadays.

Don't know yet when I will be coming over to UK again, I've already been there this year and with all the travel it has been this year so far I guess it won't be until next year the earliest (can't really afford to travel that much as it has been this year with UK, Japan, Finland, Italy and a lot within Sweden and Japan again later this year).
