According to James Williams and G. C. Stone, a few Japanese swords had a short back edge, like most sabers from China and other countries west of Japan. I am wondering if there were any ko ryu known of that taught cuts with the back edge?

Hi Jesse,
I'm going out on a limb here, but I've been led to believe that the back-edge on some katana/tachi (going back about 1/4 or 1/3 from the kissaki) is a left over remnant from the older double-edged tsurugi/ken modelled on continental style blades.
Hope this helps!
