Does anyone have quality Shorinji Kempo videos they are willing to sell/trade? I'm looking for masterful demonstrations of self-defense/two-man applications.

Hi Steven.

For videos you could check the 'Books & Video' section in the Swedish Shorinji Kempo Federation homepage.
I will add some more videos in that section as soon as I have time.

The video from our 50th anniversary contains some good demos, I am not sure but that video should also be available from our Hombu (if it is not sold out).

There is also the new video from the International Taikai in Paris, have not seen that one myself yet.

I guess that there are quite a few private "home videos" out there that people might would like to share.
But it depends on what you mean by quality, in reference to the techniques demonstrated or in the quality of the video?

The best video available (I am a little biased ;) ) is here:

A joint collaboration between the British and French federations.

Isn't this video in PAL format which would not work here in the US?

You're right Raul.
I have the same problem with a japanese video in the NTSC format. You can find video labs that can transcribe PAL into NTSC.
Unfortunately, it's very expensive here in France.
I hope you'll have more luck :-)

Hi Raul.

As Julien said the video is in PAL. But if you have a somewhat modern video player it can handle both PAL and NTSC.

Anyway I used to have problem viewing NTSC videos (since I am in Sweden and we have PAL) but my new VCR can also handle NTSC tapes (ie. make it possible to view on a PAL TV). This feature is not expensive at all, even cheap VCR's have it.

So since this is possible here, I guess it should be possible for the other way around for you guys in the US.

Gassho

Unfortunately, my new VCR does appear to handle this format. One of our black belts works as an video editor for a local television news program. I will check to see if he has the facilities to do the conversion to VHS for me. I will also see how much it will cost me to go to an outside vendor to do the conversion.

Thanks anyway.
