I am curious to of know those who are familar with one of the characters highlighted in the book.
During the early '70's, Ken Ogawa the tough Goju instructor, and fighter, who was a top student of Morio Higaonna, taught in Orlando, Fl.
He competed and gave demonstrations during that era.
Later,Ogawa made South Florida his stomping grounds.--Literally

I was fortuante to have received instructions from Ken Ogawa when he was in Miami.
Nevertheless, I always like to hear other peoples experiences with him.

Mike,
Your instructor gave a good description of Ken Ogawa.
During the late 70's, before he was hired as a bodyguard, Ogawa worked as a bouncer for Big Daddy's. A motorcycle gang caused trouble at a Big Daddy bars located in another city. Ogawa was sent to take care of business. He did.
No more trouble.

I work with Ken Ogawa in the late 70's at a night club called The 4 O" Clock Club in the city of Hollywood Florida on the border of Fort Lauderdale . We was a great friend ,trainer and mentor . Love working with him....the best backup you could have. Ken came to work for the club after being the head bouncer/ trouble shooter for the Big Daddies bar chain which were throughout Florida. He once took on 6 or 7 Outlaw motor cycle members alone and all were taken care of.
In the late 70's Ken went to work as a private personal body guard in Miami Florida. Shortly after taking the job Ken and his boss were traveling to Colorado in a private plane when it crashed into a mountain side.

I was part of the dojo in Orlando that started with Yozo Ito and Ken Ogawa came over when Ito went back to Japan. An amazing school. I remember Ogawa dropping me to the floor 4-5 times during a belt test I didn't know I was taking until it was over. One student from Orlando went to study at the Yoyogi dojo with Higaonna, it was a shame the school closed. I had heard Ogawa was killed in a plane crash, thanks for the details.
