Hello, all!

Recently, I found this question in another list :

"Subject: Takeda connection to Goju Ryu?
>
>An Aikido instructor, who also teaches Goju Ryu, said in class once that
>just about every technique in Aikido can be found in Goju Ryu kata.
>I was just read an entry on a web site that said Sokaku Takeda, Sensei to
>Aikido founder Ueshiba, traveled to Okinawa in the 1870's to study Okinawa
>Te. It does not say who he studied with.
>I would like to know if anyone knows of any connection between Kanryo
>Higaonna and Takeda, or has any other information on the Aikido/Goju
>connections."

I heard also about Takeda Dai Sensei trip to Okinawa to learn okinawan arts. Does anyone knows anything else about that?

Having lived and trained in Japan for a number of years, as well as being both a Goju-Ryu (an Okinawan group) and an Aikido (Aikikai) yudansha, I can't see one postulating that all the techniques of Aikido are contained in Goju-Ryu. While there are many locking and throwing techniques contained in Goju-Ryu, it certainly does not approach the depth of the locking and throwing techniques contained within Aikido. The same can be said of Aikido, in that it does not contain the in depth kicking and striking techniques of Goju-Ryu. This certainly does not distract from the value of either art. There is more than one path to reach the mountain top, from which one can gaze at the stars.
