I have been searching for quite a while (even looking into custom manufacture) of Igabakama. For those who are not familar, the Igabakama is a Hakama pattern which originated in Iga prefecture. Its upper half (the part from the waist to the knees) is pleated and worn exactly the same as traditional hakama, however below the knees the legs are fitted to the calves and held in place with ties.

As I have said, Ive tried almost everywhere to find a supplier, even looking into the cost of custom manufacture. No one has any idea of what Im talking about and they want nearly $350-500 per pair.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide

J Robbins,

I can't find a maker, but I did find a photo for you from Anthony J. Bryant's page:

Apparently, the igabakama is also known as tatsukebakama -- maybe you'd have more luck trying that name? I wonder if that should more accurately be "tasuke" instead of tatsuke? Tasuke is the cord worn to keep sleeves out of the way when fighting -- they are still worn in the kitchen! BTW, "tasuke" literally means "help."

Anthony's most excellent site is http://www.geocities.com/sengokudaimyo/garb/Garb.html Anthony is well-known as an author about the Samurai and has authored one or two Osprey "Men-At-Arms" (or such) titles.

Regards,
Guy

Well is looks a little starchy and might make some swishing noises. If its too starchy then its probably better for entertainment instead of stealth training with friends.

Will somebody here please buy this and let us know what its like?
