Hi,

welcome to ebudo. Please be so kind and sign with your full name, as this is the rule on ebudo. Thank you.

As to your question. Their unwillingness to answer question, should give you all the info you need about them...
I would assume "Tai" stands for "body" and "Do" for "way". Most likely a made up style by a western person...

Hi Christian.

Here are some other links for you:
Danish Tado: http://www.kbh-taido.dk/
Swedish Taido Federation: http://www.taido.nu/

I have met Mikael Jansson, the president of the Swedish Taido Federation, several times and he and other Taido people here in Sweden are really nice guys.
They do serious budo.

Check out the websites and learn more.

I trained at a taido school once, i asked them a lot of questions because i found that thier art shared a lot of techniques with mine. But they replied in a most arrogant manner that my art (capoeira) was only a dance, while taido was selfdefence and a true MA.
Later another place i met some people who had been training taido for some time, and we trained together, i saw some taido techniques drawn on paper and could easely explain them from my capoeira experience, after some time training with the guys we all came to the conclution that the founder of taido must have had some experience with capoeira.
So in my wiew taido is a form of capoeira, so i want to see more.
But i dont seem to be able to find any homepage with descriptions of techniques.

I get that all the time, except that if you replace the word "dance" with "sport" I know the type.

I don't pretend to know much of anything of capoeira but isn't it "the dance" which makes capoeira as effective as it is?

I can't help with web sites, though, except to suggest a search engine so you (I wouldn't know a proper site for this) can search yourself. http://www.google.com .

I've found it to be the best search engine, especially in the google cache.

OK, curiosity got the better of me. I checked google, and this is but one site of many most are not in English, but may be just right for you. I came up with a minimum ten pages of hits on Google, and this is one in English I thought you may want to use:

www.martial-way.com/taido.html

There is a forum and a chat on this web site so you may get your answers there.

Hope it helps.

Mark

PS: Most of the other sites are in Finnish, Swedish, etc.

Hi,

It's correct that taido was developed by Shukumine Seiken.
He wanted to create a more 3-dimensional martial-art (that's why it's quite acrobatic)
Most of the non-japanese internet sites give you the same information about the history and development of taido.
Eventhough the official taido-site ( www.taido.jp ) of the honin is still under construction, it's worth visiting if you read japanese.

For the non-japanese reader another site is quite interesting (I think...):
www.taido.net

I'm not training taido myself, but the karate-style Genwakai. It's a style which was created by a student of Shukumine Shihan, named Nangou Tsugumasa.

Sincerly,

Wouter
