Hello Everybody! I've been lurking on e-budo for sometime now and have finally decided to start posting.
I'm currently looking for a good Judo dojo in the San Diego area. My MA background it mostly in Aikido and I am looking to branch out and start training in Kodokan Judo
Anybody have any suggestions for a good Judo school in San Diego?
Thanks in advance....

I can think of a few, but I have a better idea. Go to Google.com or any other search engine and use "Judo San Diego" as search words. The links are many from there.

You can try Gardena Judo Dojo for their lists of Nanka Yudanshakai dojo.

I'd recommend someone, but it has been some time since I lived in Southern California.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Mark

He's been there forever. Sadly, no.

The following was posted on Judo-L back on December 20, 2001:

I regret having to inform you that Sensei Al Holtman passed away
last night. He had been admitted into the hospital earlier in the
day after experiencing a heart attack. He was one of the founders
of Judo in Southern California. He has been teaching Judo in San
Diego since 1946 to thousands of students, including three
generations in many families. Over the years he was active
nationally as well as with Nanka Judo Yudanshakai, Pacific Southwest
Judo Association and California Judo Incorporated. At his death, he
still held positions in Pacific Southwest Judo Association and
served on the Promotion Committee of CJI. He will be missed by many.

I'm truly sorry to hear that.

Thanks for the tips on Judo dojo in San Diego. I will check them out.
I'm sorry to hear about Sensei Holtmann passing away, his school was on my list of ones to check out. My condolances to any of his surviving family/friends.
It seems that there is alot of BJJ schools in SD but Judo schools are harder to come by. I'm looking for a dojo that teaches the complete Kodokan system as a martial art. I know that may be hard to find these days but there has to be somebody out there. I would really like to stay local but if I have to travel to Orange County (IE- Gardena) once or twice a week I am willing to do that.
Thanks Again,

Thank you very much Mr Griffin and all of you others who have made suggestions. From the list of dojo's you've provided thusfar it looks like I have a lot of places to visit before I make up my mind.
BTW I have met Mr Lafon. He is teaching judo out of a newly opened location at 63rd and University in San Diego on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The school is in the same area I work and I stopped by there to check it out. He seemed like a very nice guy.
Anyway, lotsa work to do, Thanks again
