Hi.

I is there anybody on this forum that knows if there is any place were you can find free (or cheap) Japanese TrueType-fonts?
I know about the MS Mincho and MS Gothic that Microsoft "give away" with their Office program.

But I would like to have some font that look like "handwritten" kanji.

Hello Anders,

I remember seeing a similar question a while back, and I had full access to all of the Japanese fonts on my system and was able to check a few for hand-written style Kanji. Unfortunately, my computer is kind of going wierd on me and while I still seem to have all the fonts, they're not showing up in Word. I will work on this problem, but in the meantime, I seem to remember that "HG?³ž²?‘‘Ì" (HG Seikai Shotai) was pretty neat looking and did have a hand-written feel to it.

I'm sure if you type into a search engine, it will come up. Please let me know if I can help with the search. Also, I will work on my little problem here. Sorry I couldn't provide more help!

Sincerely,

Adam

Thanks for your answer Adam.

I tried to do a search on the font you mentioned, but didn't find anything. If you could help me out I would appreciate it.

Hi Anders,

Well, I'm looking around on another window right now, and found some pretty good ones. The *really* good ones are about US$50 or so, and the average ones are generally free. Hope these links work:

http://www.sol.dti.ne.jp/%7Eflop/flash/fontd12.html

For the heck of it - http://www.sol.dti.ne.jp/%7Eflop/flash/fontd21.html

Could possibly look like handwritten kana - http://www.sol.dti.ne.jp/%7Eflop/flash/fontd23.html

Here's a great list of links where you can get fonts - http://home.intercity.or.jp/users/masak/

Finally, this is where all of the above pages recommend purchasing the really cool fonts - http://www.shoeisha.co.jp/pc/

They say that they are about 3,800 yen each. My computer connection here at home is so slow that I doubt I'll be able to down load their price list PDF file.

I hope this will help!

Adam

Anders,

You may want to try Jim's Kanji. It is shareware, and the fonts are TrueType. Click on the link below to download:

ftp://ftp.west.net/pub/users/kurrasch/kanji112.exe

Be sure to read the "Readme" file for important information, and be sure to copy all of the font files (Kana, Kanji A through Kanji L, and Kanji Special) to your fonts folder in the control panel.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I spent a little time searching (partly for my
own interest) and could not find anything of particular interest or importance.

If you do decide to spend $ then MS2000 is packaged with double byte character recognition and
supports a number of Japanese font sets. Fairly basic though out of the package, but is handy for those
who constantly browse JPN sites.
I understand that you can also download/upgrade JPN font sets from the MS Home site for Ver. 2000.
Perhaps your handwritten style font exists there.

Good luck.

Pavel,

Try the following link:

http://didier.mas.free.fr/public/

This takes you to a page for sword.ttf, which is the closet thing to a brush written font that I have found for free.

Check out this thread:

http://www.e-budo.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10883

The Epson site has some truly nice looking FREE truetype fonts. (Check my second post to that thread -- the first one had the site address listed incorrectly.)
