Aloha,

I just wanted to ask if anyone could point me in the right direction for finding a karate sensei here in Hawaii. I'm interested in a more traditional approach rather than a black belt factory setting. My history with karate began in Oregon where I attained a yon-kyu in shobayashi shorin-ryu. It would be nice to try and take-up training in that ryu once more.

Mahalos for any replies.

Hello hawaiianvw67

As a matter of housekeeping, please sign with your full given name as prescibed by the Moderaters of this forum.

You may wish to contact Charles Goodin in Hawaii for information of a dojo of interest to you.

His website: http://www.tanega.com/dojo/

He is a Matsubayashi-ryu practitioner:

Hope this helps in your search.

Aloha Dale,

Sorry about not signing the post. I recently updated some things on my profile and I guess my signature got deleted. I didn't even think twice to check and see if it was there. Hopefully it is there now.

Thank you for the links.

Mahalo and Aloha,
Joel Simmons

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the information. I will check it out. Are you here in Hawai'i? Just wondering since you nailed the address down.

Aloha Joel,
I don't know if you have checked this out yet but,
there's a good teacher in Aiea by the name of Charles Goodin.
He teaches Matsubayashi-ryu with strong ties to the Motobu
lineage. If he can't help you, then he probably can steer you
to someone else on the island.
His address is:

Charles C. Goodin, President
Hawaii Karate Seinenkai
98-211 Pali Momi Street, Suite 640
Aiea, Hawaii 96701 USA

His web site is:
http://www.tanega.com/seinenkai/

I noticed by your handle that you're into VW's.
Do you know about this forum?

Good-luck bradda.

Aloha Ray,

Since these posts, I've been in contact with Mr. Goodin. I've actually spoken to him several times before. My own sensei (in jujutsu) is friends with him and I've been told to find a Mr. Pat Nakata, if he's still teaching.

So what year is/was your bug, Ray?

I got a 67 and I'm currently building a new engine for it. Let me know if you have any 48 IDA webers lying around. :karatekid

Sorry for the completely off-topic conversation folks.
