Hi,
Anyone know of a dojo or teacher of kenjutsu or kendo in the Tampa, Florida area? I've checked the yellow pages and asked around, the closest thing I was able to find was a To Shin Do(bujikan, i think) dojo. Even a kendo club would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Hello. I live about 45 minutes north of Tampa and have a small dojo where we practice Aikido and Iaido. Our Aikido group uses a lot of weapons. Closer to Tampa, you might try Messores Sensei at St. Pete. Aikikai (try theaikidodojo.com). Aikido dojos under Saotome Sensei tend to do a fair bit of sword work, although I am particularly partial to it myself. I don't know of any Kendo or kenjutsu in the Tampa area and I heard that the person who was teaching Iaido in Ft. Myers recently passed away. There is a Federation Aikido instructor, Nobu Arakawa, in Hyde Park who also may be able to assist you.
If you wish, you can contact me via PM or e-mail (see profile) although it will be a few days before I can respond. Saotome Sensei will be at Shindai Aikikai in Orlando this weekend.:toast: Misogi and shugyo--look out boys, here I come...:smash:

(Joe) Bass sensei died recently, altho his dojo is still in operation . It is being run by his wife, Janice Bass. In St. Pete, Mike Femal is running a small dojo as a branch study group of teh Toyama batto group in Fla. He is very good at cutting. Check out www.toyama-ryu.com for info. Bob Elder

We have a small class that meets every Saturday in St. Pete. We study iai as well as other stuff. Some of us are from Tampa & have considered getting together a few weeknights in town to train as well. If you are interested, email me privately.

I don't know anything about your background, but the University of Florida has a kendo club.
I am the president (until august when I go to japan for a year of training) however, it is a good club.
Only major catch is you have to be a college student at UF to join. We have been known to sneak people in, but over the summer, our practice locations have pretty tight security controls.
Talk to me on AIM about this: NeticaMavn or email me at tetsuo@technolustomega.net
You can visit our club page at http://plaza.ufl.edu/tetsuoxb/
