Can you guys explain to me what Aikido is? My future sensei is not only iaido practitioner, but a aikido one as well. Is Aikido a sword art? Or is it hand-to-hand? Or both? I get the impression that it is similar to iaido, but I could be wrong, as I know nothing about it except for what I have read briefly.
these should provide you with the needed info:

Aikido is a martial way that is primarily an empty-hand art, but may include [depending on the dojo] use of the sword and short staff....sometimes as a training aid and sometimes for their own sake. You're fortunate to find a dojo that also does Iaido...many do not.
Good luck!
