I didn't know quite where to place this, having noticed a reference to these two arts as possibly related in the Daito-ryu forum. As Jigen-ryu is certainly a sword art, why not here?

I have only seen photos of Udundi in Japanese martial arts magazines, and read verbal descriptions such as Mr. Vengel's here. From that, I would say (speculate) that it is extremely unlikely that Jigen-ryu had any influence upon Udundi. I cannot imagine anything more opposite. Jigen-ryu is the closest thing to a consciously achieved and managed berserker state. The techniques are wild, passionate, and simple. The sophistication comes in the study of spacing, the power comes in the training of will. Essentially, everyone knows exactly where the Jigen-ryu swordsman will attach - kesa giri (or maybe gyaku kesa). But from all accounts, it's like facing one of those remote controlled drones, laser-sighted - you move where you will, he is locked on that target, and he is incredibly fast and incredibly powerful - as all the extraneous has been honed away from training. They basically do one thing better than anybody else.
