View Full Version : tameshigiri in tokyo?

As part of our standard Mugairyu Iaihyodo curriculum, we do tameshigiri about once a month. I'd like to practice a bit more than that, perhaps 2-3 times a month, but attempts to do so on my own are failing. Biggest issue is space; I live in a small apartment in Minami Azabu. No parking garage/roof to use, can't use the local parks, local temple and neighbors have been at each other's throats since the new monk took over a few years ago and cut down all the trees to build a parking lot so that's out...
So are there any groups/folks who cut regularly in Tokyo? I'm of course willing to pay to cover costs and help where I can. I'd also naturally consider joining a group from another style (battojutsu, etc.) but I'm mainly looking to improve on Mugairyu Iaihyodo, and as we do most of our cutting from a seated draw, I'd want to make sure that I wouldn't be doing anything at odds with my host.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Ren,

You could go to Tsurumi and observe Toyama Ryu/Nakamura Ryu. If you train there, though, you will be doing only tachiwaza. The tameshigiri you learn from the tachiwaza can be modified for seiza. But standing is much better for your knees.

Let me know if you are interested in a shokai.
