It's official: Keanu Reeves is to play our favourite necromancer, John Constantine, with Rachel Weisz as a lady cop. Hellblazer will be coming to a big screen near you!
And remember: You heard it here first! (Maybe!)

I thought upon reading the title that Keanu Reeves was going to play the Emperor Constantine. Damn, that would have been a hoot.

Ah, sorry to disappoint you, David. I've always been a fan of Hellblazer, ever since Keanu's debut in the Swamp Thing. A great Alan Moore creation. I don't mind an American playing a British hero, but I do object to the character being made American; he's supposed to be from Liverpool!

You know, it occurs to me that if an alien were to get an idea of what the average martial artist is like from web bulletin boards, and drawing from no other resources, he/she/it would likely conclude that we live in a fantasy world, more interested in anime and fictional superheroes than anything remotely martial.
I loved Swamp Thing too..:D

BTW, did you know Alan Moore was behind the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? (http://www.lxgmovie.com/)

More Marvelman (who was called "Miracleman" on David's side of the Pond):

...and yet more Marvelman (I liked this character, in case you can't tell):

alan Moore also created V for Vendetta (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/5768/Vendetta/) and Axel Pressbutton:

Tony,
As a rank beginner in discovering the joys of Alan Moore, where would you recommend I start? What, in your opinion (or ay other Alan Moore aficiandos here) would be a "top five" of works that would ease me nicely into his world?
That is just so wrong. There's nothing Constantine-ish in Keanu Reeves. Not a single thing. :( I just can't imagine him doing John Constantine. Not after seeing the all-powerful Neo in Matrix: Reloaded. Blegh.
For a tip: Read Neil Gaiman's Miracleman: The Golden Age. Or any book of the Sandman-series. There's some amazing stories there, not to mention that Gaiman brings out John Constantine quite uniquely.

I agree with Heli.
Alexis Denisoff would make a better Constantine. I don't mind an American playing the character (after all, acting is all about pretending), but I DO object to relocating from London to LA and making the character American.
Start with Marvelman (Miracleman). Perfect introduction to the British take on superheroes.
And keep Sly Stallone away from our Judge Dredd comic. "I am the law"? Not around here, you're not!

I had been previously unaware that Stallonese could be rendered in Roman characters. I bow to your omnipotence.

No, Jason, it's easy:
"Duh. Naw. Slobber dobber drool..."
Rocky II: "Duh. Naw. Slobber dobber drool..."
Rocky III: "Duh. Naw. Slobber dobber drool..."
Rocky IV* "Duh. Naw. Slobber dobber drool, drool..."
Get Carter: Michael Caine did it better.
Rambo: Rocky with a machine gun
Rambo II: Die you commies.
Rambo III: Die you commies with nobs ON!
Stop, or My Mom Will Shoot: No, let's not go there.
See? a 30 year career explained easily.
Best, :D
