Dear All,
I would like to appeal for your assistance to possibly locate some items stolen from the storage shed at the Nichiren Buddhist Temple of San Jose, CA which is used by the Golden Gate Shorinji Kempo.
The storage shed was burglarized and the perpetrators stole the following items:
1. Punching/Kicking Sandbag
2. Two Bags filled with various sparring equipment
3. Two Wavemasters
4. One Shorinji Kempo Men - According to the Sensei, this item is not sold in the United States and there should only be 3-4 in the States. I have attached a pic to this post.
The items are identified by "Golden Gate Shorinji Kempo" marked on the equipment.
Should you come across anyone with these items or anyone trying to sell these items, please contact me, or call the San Jose Police Department referencing case number: 03-309-1038
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Arnold Matsuda

Going to copy this in the lounge, as it will get more of a reading.

Sorry for your loss. Would all people in California keep their eyes peeled, please?

Bump.
Perhaps Anders Sensei or Steve Sensei could make this thread sticky, until the stolen equipment is recovered?

Hi Tony,
I'll keep my eye open. One question, what is this "helmet" is use for ? I have never seen anything like this before.

Full contact randori. We wear the helmet shown, a do (chest armour), and ken (fist) supporters. Oh, and a groin guard.
And then we go hell for leather at each other. The helmet was introduced to prevent serious brain injury, but it doesn't work on me, 'cos I'm brain dead already--just ask my fellow Shorinji Kenshi.
:p

Actually, I have an anecdote about those helmets. I graded to sandan in Tokyo on 2nd September a few years ago, which was a stiflingly hot and sticky day (still the Japanese summer). After the Kihon and other exercises, so I'm now sweating buckets, we came to the randori section of the grading. I put my helmet on, and it slipped on the sweat so it was covering my eyes. Blind, I spun around to deliver a perfect uraken to my sparring partner's temple, earning a point... and I couldn't see him at the time!
Just call me Zatoichi, or Daredevil, from now on. ;)

Sounds more like Luke Skywalker!
Luke: "With the visor on, I can't even see the remote."
Obi Wan:"Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them."
Luke then scores a perfect lightsaber stroke against the remote's blaster shot.
Han: "I call it luck."
Obi Wan: "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck."
Luke: "I could almost see the remote."
Obi Wan: "The Force has a powerful effect on the weak minded."
Han & Luke droning in unison:"The..Force..has..a...powerful..effect..on..the..weak..minded." :D

Are you calling me weak minded, Brian? :D
It was cool, but I couldn't replicate it on demand. It was luck.
Still worth a point, though.

That visor is so large that I can't tear my eyes away from it. It's mesmerizing.

How much is a helmet like that worth? It looks to be an expensive piece of gear.
I hope these things are recovered.

16,000 yen (about $160). Check out the online shop (http://www.ozaki-sk.co.jp/bogu/bogu-2.htm) for more information.

The picture of the stolen men looks somewhat different than those sold on the site linked above. That could help in locating the missing item if it should show up on e-Bay or something.
On the other hand it could make replacing it more difficult if someone wanted to donate one to the cause.
