A woman who hired a hit man to kill her husband's lover got more than she bargained for when the assassin murdered her instead.

The Beijing woman agreed to pay Li Changjiang 100,000 yuan ($16,773) to kill or disfigure her husband's mistress but when he failed to do so she demanded the money back.

Li, with associates Zhang Hongyu and Sun Yanhai, showed they had no qualms about carrying out the deadly deed by killing her instead, the Xinhua news agency said.

Sun was sentenced to life imprisonment while Zhang remains at large.

The Beijing First Intermediate People's Court sentenced Li to death last Friday and he was executed yesterday.

Poetic justice at its finest.

What would possess someone to get into a fight over money with a hired killer? Sounds like a Darwin Award to me.

Wow, now THAT is what I call a death penalty, just a few days after you are convicted, you die? Heck yeah. I think it works in the cases of people who we know are murderers without a doubt (McVeigh) that way they don't waste more of our tax money.

does anyone know why the hitman didn't do his job?

At the risk of inflaming a number of people...

I'm curious.

Is it more fulfilling to desire the death of an individual who's been involved in an attrocity such as murder- be it of an innocent or perhaps even someone who the masses might find more "expendable" (i.e. gang war, robbers, etc), or are there more that might be more inclined to believe that it is apart from society that these people will be judged.

I've been contemplating the fact that no matter what i think, even if i had the power to make law, i would have no effect on a soul (life, however you view it) when their time was up.

I do not know, nor could i suppose.

I would hope that we could keep society safe, but at what level of righteousness?

I would never assume to be right, and i'm actually fascinated by this type of discussion, so by all means please offer your opinion in an educated, honest, heart felt manner
