I wonder if I could get some suggestions. On this particular workstation, any time I click a link that opens up a new (separate)window in IE, it opens a blank window. It does not appear to be a problem with Java (now that Microsoft no longer supports it) - Java games work fine, or the "Advanced settings" within IE - I checked them against another workstation attached to the same server. It just started doing this one day..and I haven't the foggiest. Anyone have any ideas?

i'd see if there is a new version of IE to install. Installing it might fix a few things. You also might want to go in and reset and defaults in your IE settings.

Thanks Mr. Thornton..I tried resetting it to the default settings, but no joy. I will see if there's a newer version out when I get back to work on Monday.

No need for the mister, Gunny. You're the one in uniform, I need to be addressing YOU formally, not the other way around :)

One other thing: assuming you don't have a high-speed connection where you are, you might get someone who does to download the updates your computer needs for you and burn them to a CD you can then stick in your computer. Downloading if you're over a modem will be an excercise is waiting a week or two.

If you are using Win 98 you are screwed.

If you are lucky enough to have XP just do a roll-back :)

Hey , I generally use this page:-
Computing.Net (http://computing.net/)
When I have any computer problems that I dont already know how to fix.

This page from Microsoft should help you with your particular problem:-
Microsoft IE blank page help (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q281679)

Hi Dave,
Becky said to check any new software that may have been loaded (with or without your knowledge). She said the first thing she would suspect is a virus or some type of spyware running.

By the time you come out to Yuma again, we will be in Phoenix. I start my Masters in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture on the 6th. E-mail us when you head out this way.
Take care,
Ron

Run a good spyware checker, and then reset your security settings in IE.

I was out of town at a wedding. Thanks all, I will try all these things when I get back to work.

I'll give you a yell when I'm out your way next Ron..though it may be awhile, I'm off to Japan next month. :)

That has worked for me the same number of times that flicking the screen has worked.

If it is spyware then use the Spybot program.

It will get rid of any spyware, torjans ETC.

But the uninstall is a sod to get rid of. It leaves a .dll file and it cannot be removed. It is a good program, but the file is something I wish to get rid of. Can anyone tell me how to remove it?

(safe mode is usually the best way to delete stubborn bits of programs)

I accendently stuck it on advanced and it would not bring up the part of the program to reset it. If I can get rid of this file and from the registry, I can reinstall it and have the main screen back to the way it was before.

If it is a dll that won't let you delete it, sounds like something is running and using it. Get the free software called End It All and use it to close the spyware, and then delete the dll. PestPatrol is also a good program.
