Thanks-

I always go to Honda Martial Arts for my uniforms. They're cheap and are high quality. There's another store right on 6th Ave. I believe it's on 28th St.

Hello Mr. Cervantes

Jersey City ehhhhhhhh?

IsShin ehhhhhhhhhhhhh?

I take it that you're from Don Nagle's?

He was a dear friend of my teacher. I sparred at the Central Ave. DoJo a few times.

Or perhaps you're with Joel Bucholtz or Ralph Pissaro?

Good group all.

You would not happen to know Steve Sabo would you?

Mr. Malanosk,

Excellent deduction! Yes, I am from the Central Ave. school. We have a few photos with Sensei Nagle and Urban hanging up. We also have the Honorary GoDan certficate your Sensei hanging on the wall.

I don't personally know Mr. Sabo. The last time I saw him was at our Kumpai party 2001. He sent us a Christmas card this year. Would you like his contact info?

Do you have any good stories of the times you visited our place?

Hello Mr. Cervantes,

Steve Sabo is the nephew of a lady that was my Mother's best friend in the 70s.

I spent quite a bit of time hanging with him down at Sea Side Heights many years ago.

To be quite honest, we had a kind of love hate relationship, we both being KaraTe Baka, but from different famous teachers.

Yes, when I was a teenager and he was about 20 or 21, we actually had a REAL kumite match at the Central Ave. DoJo, where it ended up on the floor with he seeming to think that I was trying to gouge his eyes out, and him trying to choke me out.

Ahhhh, the good ole days.:p

Don't get me wrong, he's good people, but we where both quite crazy in those days.

As to my visits, I was there with Sensei Urban in the early 70s for shiai, and used to watch Sensei Nagle and he kinda compete breaking boards when I was, jeese I dont know, 9 or 10, so that would be in 69 or 70. The board breaking was at a VFW I beleive.

Just before I went into the USMC, I was sparring at Central ave. with some of their boys in order to prepair for Cho's tournament in MSG, when I got my thumb dislocated via a jump back kick from a real tall blond guy, who I beleive was from the Bayonne dojo. This didn't keep me from fighting at Cho's or going into the Corps, but it sure didn't help! Had to go downstairs to the drug store for an ace bandage.

I was there when Passaro was the great white hope, and would be the IsShin secret weapon against the BKG and KA's boys at the tournaments. I was fighting on Jeter's team in those days, so I rarley missed the action.

I used to attend Sensei Nagles events at Dickinson with my teacher and our folks every year.

Quite a few times Sensei Nagle and Sabo, would drive me home after the classes that I would attend, so I knew Sensei Nagle quite well.

Even have video tape of the famous match btwn my teacher and he!

Yes, if you could email me contact info. on Sabo, that would be cool.

I have a good bud here in Fla. named Jim Kelly who was a student of Dale Jenkins at the Polish home just off of journal square. Kelly went under Nagle when Jenkins passed away, but went with Nick Adler when Nagle passed.

As a matter of fact I was with Adler at Kelly's tournament a few months ago.

Phew!

That was a lot of remenising.

By the way, my name is MALANOSKI. The name upper left got screwed up, and I still have not gotten these guys to fix it for me.

Mr. Malanoski,

I'm sorry that I misspelled your last name.

Those days must have been great. My uncle started in the late 70's and he used to tell me the crazy stories of the "Wild Boys"!!! They used to go at it like madmen but it was all in good fun. After the matches they'd get beers and just hungout like nothing had happened.

The tall blond guy could be Brian Fitzgerald. He's really tall and there are a pics of him doing that kick.

Those BKG guys are excellent fighters. I almost beat one of them at the last tournament I competed in, 3-2. I was so disappointed. I thought I had it in the bag. Oh well, I guess I gotta train more.

My uncle dislocated his knee at one of the Dickinson tournaments. After that injury, he's wasn't the same. He stopped sparring and eventually stopped working out.

Wow, I wish I could see that historical match between Sensei Nagle and Sensei Urban. The only thing I've seen of the match are the pics from your Sensei's book.

I have a tape of Sensei Nagle doing a seminar for Jim Kelly. I forgot what year it was.

Sorry for the long post. I just love hearing stories about the "Old School"!

I'm going to the dojo on Saturday. I'll email you Mr. Sabo's info.

Again, I apologize for the screwing up your last name.
