As all of you know, rice is cultivated in "ta" (a rice paddy).
The shape of kanji "ta" expresses an actual rice paddy.
There are many Japanese family names which have kanji "ta", for
example, "Yoshi-da", "Ashi-da", "Ike-da", "Ta-naka", "Fuku-da" and
"Ha-ta" among the successive Prime Ministers after after World War II.
Various family names consisted of kanji "ta" may demonstrate how many
people were engaged in rice farming in ancient times.
