Ok, how about some help? This has probably been covered to some degree before but I want to know for sure, specifically, what is it like for a single guy who makes about $20 000 to $30 000 a year to get health care insurance in the States? I had an argument with someone over this and according to them it would cost between $500 to $1000 a month for insurance.

Well, I don't remember what mine used to cost back when I was working, as my employer paid for it. I tried to find it on the web, but unfortunately, they won't give you a price unless you stick in a bunch of information, and as I'm not actually currently looking for health insurance, that's too much trouble for my taste. It ain't cheap, I know that much.

Depends. If your employer provides health care, it will cost you anywhere from nothing to $300/month.

If you need to get it on your own, without being part of a group or association of some sort, it will cost you considerably more. The sky is the limit, depending on what kind of coverage you want, deductables, etc. You are looking at several hundred dollars/month for something relatively comprehensive including prescription, exclusive of dental/eye.

My info is based upon getting insurance for a small business that I used to own, cobra rates etc.

Your results may vary tremendously, but all in all, not cheap. It will be much more than any other type of insurance that individuals pay for, such as house, car, etc.

I work for the state. State pays for mine, I have a $350 deductible. I pay 14.55 a month for dental.
