I think you'd better check with Shinkendo sensei in Melbourne. I forgot the Australian website but you can go to www.shinkendo.com and click to the australian representative. I saw the photos of him doing tameshigiri demonstration in Laverton.

Sorry, also wanted to add a fellow kobudoka once mentioned to me that he likes to use "pool noodles" as an alternative. Although far from traditional they're cheap to buy, readily accessible and not so easy to cut properly if you're technique isn't up to scratch.

But the name "pool noodle" just spoils the seriousness of it all, doesnt it? ;)

Can't deny it.. especially since they're really kiddies toys :D at least those that don't know what they're can do a google search to find out. :)

Pool noodles are actually not bad for beginners. They flex if cut incorrectly so it teaches good focus and hasuji. There isnt a pool noodle safe for miles around here........
