Okay, so it's not news from Japan, but I still think this is great!

Tabuse makes NBA history, scores 7 points in debut
NEW YORK -- Yuta Tabuse, the first Japanese to make a team roster in the NBA, made a historic debut with the Phoenix Suns Wednesday and earned seven points during 10 minutes of playing time.
"I made a few mistakes (during the debut game). But I think my confidence grew in that game," Tabuse, 24, said after the season's opener against the Atlanta Hawks. "I have a lot more to learn. So I will train hard during practice sessions."
Tabuse, a 173-centimeter point guard, initially sat on the bench while Steve Nash, one of the top point guards in the NBA, took the court for the Suns.
But Tabuse finally appeared in the fourth quarter and scored a three-pointer. Tabuse also scored four one-point free throws, bringing his total to seven points for the game.
After staring in his basketball team at Kumashiro Technical High School in Akita Prefecture, Tabuse played for Brigham Young University in Hawaii. He returned to Japan and captured the Rookie of the Year title in Japan's Super League in the 2002 season when he played for Toyota Alvark.
He went to the United States last year to try and make it in the NBA, and appeared in the Denver Nuggets' pre-season games. But he was dropped before the season began. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Nov. 4, 2004)
