Most people don't like being "second" in anything, but I have to count the FIRST reason Christmas is special to me... I have to remember Who's birthday it celebrates.
Aside from that, the greatest gift I've received in recent memory is the friendship, education, "shugyo" and assistance I've received from so many here and elsewhere in the martial arts community over the years. Some of you are actual friends, others I know well and still others I've only met or talked to once. In all cases though, I've come away with more than I could've expected, and NO ONE HERE has EVER belittled me because of my (lack of) experience.
Thank you, and a Merry Christmas, a (belated) Hannaukah, a Glorious New Moon Ceremony (hey, I'm Cherokee guys!) and all the rest to all at E-Budo and beyond, but especially to:
Bob Elder (Saint Bob the Elder... my friend and teacher)
Guy Power (the most unpretentious gentleman I've ever met and a true teacher)
Nathan Scott (a scholar with a desire to learn vs. just teach)
Meik Skoss (who advised a "young" E-Budo newbie not to "Gilt the lily" when getting more involved with the Japanese martial ways)
Neil Yamamoto (how can I not enjoy the posts of the inheritor of Aiki Fluffy Bunny Ryu... also a kind gentleman who was willing to help a stranger experience more "real" art than most... thank you Neil and I'll bring the McCallan!)
Cady Goldfield (I know... what's some strange Cherokee kid thanking a nice Jewish girl at is Christmas time for? Well... your kindness during our brief exchanges as well as your knowledge has helped me navigate and understand many things here... for that my many thanks!)
I also want to thank four people (I know I've missed many others and to them my thanks as well)... four people who I don't believe are E-Budo members but whom some of you may know:
Darwin L. Haynes, Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do - My first "real" martial arts teacher, a true gentleman of the martial arts who never let me become mediocre in his class. He also introduced me to Arnis, which I still love. Thanks Sabunim!
Hayawo Kiyama, of the Daito Ryu Kodokai - I learned more about not only the "how" but the "love" of the martial arts from that man in two very brief seminars, than most of us will ever learn in a lifetime of "classes." I will not pretend to even think that he remembers me, but he showed me the "power" as well as the "purpose" of the arts I do, as well as the things I aspire to do in the martial arts. Domo Arigato Gozaimashita, Kiyama Sensei!
Stanley Pranin, Editor in Chief of Aikido Journal - Stan has given me and many others a forum by which we can both respect and sometimes question the arts we do - respectfully yet honestly. He's given many of us who love the aiki arts a way to experience them even when we're not that close to them physically. Thanks Stan!
Dave Lamond, Icho Yama Ryu Aiki Jujutsu - Dave introduced me to the Aiki arts, which is something I'll never forgive him for <g>! He's a true professional in the martial arts world, but more than that... he truly cares about his art, his students and the world around him. Thanks Dave Sensei... I know... more sweat!
Ok... enough talk. Enjoy your Holidays, and may the Lord or whom or what ever you believe in, bless you today and beyond.
Yours in Budo,
Carlos

Hey Carlos,
Jews celebrate the New Moon too! But we do it every month when there's a new New Moon. :)
In addition, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanza, and Happy New Year (both Western and Asian) to all.
