Hey ya all!
I would like some feedback on what you think about changing tsuba on new swords. I like old tsuba and their patterns are cool. I only have one at this time, but it's a unique one. I will get a picture and post it sometime. But do others of you change your tsuba or do you just leave the sword as you bought it? That tsuba has gone from my gunto cutter to an Elder katana with bohee to my new Hataya Kotetsu wakisashi (its small as tsuba go, two and a half by three, square and has inlay of lotus tree in bloom with silver, gold and bronze colors on grey pantina with cut outs of lattice work, real cool).

Hey Jim,
I've been known to do that in the past. It's no problem as long as you're very careful about keeping the fit of the tsuka the same. In fact, I've been keeping my eyes open for a new tsuba for my kotetsu that I use for cutting. The tsuba that's on it is one ugly mother! :)

Is that a Hataya Kotetsu? How do like the weight and feel while cutting?

Yup.
It's a bit heavier feeling than the Swordstore that I've been using. Not quite as purty either. I've never used anything that cuts quite this well though. It's a used one, and I've got to ship it out to Mr. Femal and have him sharp it up for me before August. :)

Paul has a new sword. Must travel to Texas. Bring rough ugly rock to rub edge on before Tai Kai. j/k.

Yeah, they are smooth cutting. Just emailed Sensei Femal about sharpening up my Elder katana, maybe next year I'll have a Kotetsu in the old saya. Are you going to the seminars? I need a large square tsuba for my katana and would love to find one similar to the one I have, but I will worry about balance first.
See you in August

Just been trying to find a small tsuba for my sword....after going through three antique shops in Kyoto I finally came up with a choice of four from about 200. I got three and have passed two on to a couple of my students. The one I didnt buy (but liked the most) turned out to have a price tag of 5 million yen, I apparently have good taste but unfortunately not the income to match...

We dont have to many antique shops that carry old tsuba here in Orlando, Florida. I am looking for another tsuba for that Elder katana. I might wait for the sword show in August and go with Bob, Hataya Sensei and da boys. Long way off though. I bet you did see some cool tsuba.
