This is just a stupid piece of politicking, designed to cream the knickers of Daily Mail readers. Thankfully, I doubt it will ever be applied.

Existing laws can already deal with the problem. The last thing we need is more knee-jerk legislation that a) elevates the status of the crime b) has such a nebulous definition, and c) further stifles free speech.

If we are talking about real head chopping, then I would favor it. It was always fun to miss, take a few more hacks until it fell off and raise the head and shout "Here is the head of a traitor".

Hell, even I would do it. You get to keep their belongings if you were the executioner in Tudor times.

Then again:

Treason carries a penalty of life imprisonment. The death penalty for the offence was abolished only in 1998.

Meaning that it would effectively be akin to murder, in terms of sentencing. I'll see what I can do about getting that sense of humour... :p
