Hey,
My Japanese is already non-existant, but I came across a symbol that I'm not familiar with, anyone have any idea what it is?
Here it is by itself:
<UL><IMG SRC="http://www.heiki.cc/temp/01.bmp"></UL>
Here it is used in a sentence:
<UL><IMG SRC="http://www.heiki.cc/temp/02.bmp"></UL>
Thanks,
Rob Boger

Looks to me like the Katakana symbol written in Romaji as "re".
Although exactly what a small "re" means here I do not know...
Regards,
Chris.
It looks like this is trying to express classical Japanese readings, similar to what scribes would have needed to know to pronounce readings (katakana being implemented in classical writings). Looking at the proverb here, the "re" following "shikarazu" (alternate reading of "FU") appears to make it read "shikaRE," gramatically appropriate.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Do you know if there is a way to type this out within Japanese Windows 98? Or do you just use a smaller type and use the Katakana 're'?
Such as:
<UL><FONT SIZE=5>名?lノ忍ナリ可シ可<FONT SIZE=-5>レ</FONT>シ謂ツ其?p?rタ?[シ?B</FONT></UL>
Sorry for the such big type-face, it's the only way to get it close to proportionate.
Thanks again,
Rob Boger

This symbol is to aid in reading kanbun. It's called "reiten",
the translation into romaji is:
"Horobosu no wakimae o shirazu aa tsutanaki koto."
