Dear fellows,

For my interest I'm reserching some information about old system of graduation in Koryu. I'd like to know something about the Hiden Ogi level in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu. Which level is (basic? Advanced? one of the Highest?)? Is it present only in DRAJJ or in other koryu? Which part of the program is covered by this type of license?

Thank you very much for your help in my research :)

Hello,

The Hiden Okugi (AKA: Hiden Ogi) appears to be the second of four levels of transmission in the old (original?) densho structure of Daito-ryu. See the following threads for more information on DR and various koryu densho structures:

Daito-ryu Densho (http://204.95.207.136/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&postid=50772)

Menkyo Kaiden (http://www.e-budo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6108) (See page 2)

The naming of the densho in Daito-ryu are pretty unique compared to the densho I've seen of other ryu-ha in that there are a lot of "hiden", "okugi", and "okuden" (ie: secret) used in the densho titles. I would assume this is because the art was supposedly passed down in secrecy until recent generations, and the titles of the densho are intended to advise the recipient to keep the information to themselves.
