Quite a nice demo.
Pity balisongs are illegal in the UK, so unless you already possess one (as I do) there's not going to be much practice here.

Trust the yanks to go for good ol' health and safety. I say "no pain, no gain".
What's a few cut fingers between blades.

Over here (UK) we get periodic moral panics. The depth of their stupidity can be judged by the fact that when Bruce Lee was popular the govt banned the deadly chukkas, despite the fact that they are far more dangerous to the user than the victim. And periodically there are suggestions to ban "knives", with Rambo combat eviscerators being the archetypal target. Until someone points out that a standard meat slicing kitchen knife is actually more lethal. The last attempt was to suggest that knives with points be banned.
The English disease - the fear that someone somewhere is having unlicensed fun.
Dirk
Ninja death stars (sic) were banned when a few were thrown at hooliganised football matches.
There was a much higher incidence of people using normal playing darts at such events.....

You're right! I'd forgotten.
And then every kid made an illicit one in metalwork class. It's not exactly rocket science. Caltrops are still legal AFAIK, and vastly more of a hazard. Lucky the local scum have never heard of them.
I expect the next moral panic will be laser pointers again. Esp since some modern ones can put out 300mW, which are real eye poppers.

There's still the ongoing samurai sword debacle ;-)
My money is on the next victim of urban mugging weaponry, the 3 sectional staff ;-)
FWIW as I recall habitual knife users were more in favour of using a retractable stanley for slashing fun, as opposed to the 'tooled up' dude.

True, but you can't ban WMDs like craft knives (box cutters to the USians here). Good enough to bring down the WTC, good enough to carry to a Saturday night fight. Too useful to ban.
Interesting thing I discovered recently when I went into a poundstore. Got a whole pack of those crap Chinese plastic Stanley ripoffs. Included was a tiny (thumbnail size) retractable blade! At a pinch (pun intended) you could probably hide the thing in your mouth (or less comfortably elsewhere) without harm. A totally legal, utterly vicious potential weapon that likely cannot be picked up on scanners or distinguished from coins by metal detectors. I'm just waiting for the panic to set in...

I saw a site recently which shows how to take the laser out of a DVD-ROM drive and make it into a battery-powered flashlight laser. It can set things on fire, pop balloons, etc, which means it can do a real number on someone's eye. Laser pointers are weak compared.
Oh yeah, and I got a nifty little keychain laser pointer for 10 bucks at a gas station, I use it every time I give a presentation. So they're already out there...

Check out the Warren Thomas Samurai Balisong. It is Ti and ray skin, cord wrapped on the handle. He makes some really nice knives.
You may have to join the site to view the pictures.
