Just want to know, is the word Noose now a profanity and a new symbol of racism? And is the Noose as infamously profane now as Hitler's Swastika? If so, I do believe we won't be seeing re-runs of The Adam's Family TV show or movies.
Is the word lynching (all the associated suffixes) next to be put on the list? If so, what will that mean to those with the last name Lynch?
Are we wiping clean, erasing it for ever any trace of African slavery in this country? And what will be the consequences of that? Or is it that we are allowing only certain words to be said (acceptable) by some and not others. Instead of being banned by all as previous profane words. What if any are the consequences of that?
Or has this idea of controlling speech and re-defining the meaning of symbols for a group has gone beyond the definition of profane? Is it a matter of controlling and censoring communication?
I think way too much is being made of the golf Commentator using the word lynching in reference to Tiger Woods. Would she have caused so much controversy if she would have said Tiger Woods is lynching the competition? Or if she said he is being shanghighed (Woods also of Chinese decent as well).
The noose thing (full name is the Hangman's Noose). O.K. the whole ugly situation in Jenna, LA., gave raise to the emphasis on racial association to the noose we see today. We have to keep in mind black people where not the only people to be hanged centuries ago. What if that Golf magazine showed instead of a noose a rifle? Now what if Tiger Woods was an American Indian, would there be a controversy so grand, so heeded? Does a rifle symbolize an attempt of genocide? More specifically, does a Winchester lever action rifle (a symbol of the Old West) represent the near genocide of the America Indian race? American Indian’s where handed as well as other races.
The noose and it's new meaning brings me back to the Adam's Family TV show, is Lurch, or any of the characters that pulled on that noose, are they now racists? What about the word hanged will that soon be profane?
I think there are certain words that are profane and inappropriate language. We are putting more weight and extremism on restricting certain words, language, and objects connected and restrictions to one race. Yet, we are not putting the same weight, concern, and restrictions on use of words, language, and objects associated with other races that are equally profane and demeaning. Are we seeing a preference toward one race of people over others? Where is the thought, the intellect, gone that should be put into something like this gone? When did sensationalism overshadow humanity?
