ONKO CHISHIN

The expression ONKO CHISHIN can be found on the Net written with the Kanji
http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/S=48/fg=b/inline/nocolor/jap/%b8%ce?TR for "KO".

However, I've also seen it written with the wellknown Kanji for KO, like in "Koryu".

Is this wrong, or a possible, correct form of writing ONKO CHISHIN?

Actually both ideograms can be used in this case. The individual ideogram is the textbook example of old or dear, but, "ko" (which appears in the illustrated maxim, meaning old) is often used, too. In fact, Funakoshi Gichin used this form in his 1935 publication entitled, "Karatedo Kyohan.) On Ko Chi Shin ("Studying the old promotes a better understanding of the new.")
