I have been wondering for some time now what the significance of the white rope/cord was on the shinsengumi uniform (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UJ0l0DYeehI/RvKAG9X0KWI/AAAAAAAAAIc/6oHDtNWHvCk/s320/2006050151047_shinsengumi.jpg). For a while I had wondered if it had any relationship to shinto, or simply an elaborate haori himo. But I just read on the wiki page that it supposed to be a tasuki . Does anyone know if this was the case, if so was it to aid the speed of tying up the sleeves?
