That has to be the worst I've ever seen. And yet it also appears so... authentic. Nicely filmed too.

For a trashy modern type of display (one that actually works!) may I offer this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyO46RQhYkQ&feature=related) which is from a Japanese light entertainment TV show. The swordsman cuts through various materials, and does not let go of the sword at all, nor does he attempt to kill any spectators (despite some of them appearing to deserve it for the sake of fashion alone).
