Since the new system has gone live I've been able to view messages but not post.

In the end I've created a new profile, any ideas what may have gone wrong with my last profile

Any chance, your previous username were all CAPS?

I just found a bug in the new software that for some reason converted your status to "awaiting email notification." About 20 other people have the same problem and I sent them an email explaining the situation.

Try it again and the old one should work now.
