Hi
I know there are Axe techniques taught in the bujinkan, Ive heard them attributed to Shinden Fudo Ryu and Gyokko ryu, could anyone give me details on this?
Im also looking for pictures of the ono (photographs preferably) as Ive been able to find very few.
Also, what books or DVDs show the Ono in use?
THanks!

Not an axe, but a blade like one - the Musashi Kaiken/tekken:

From this website, which mentions the ryu you mention:

And an interesting modern take?

I've seen more than one woodblock print featuring a heavy axe.
I've never heard of any koryu using them though.

I have not heard GKR having anything to do with the axe.

Dean mentioned shindo tenshin ryu, not Shinden Fudo ryu.
shinden fudo ryu it a dakentaijutsu/jutaijutsu art, supposedly teaches otsuchi, ono, yari, odachi (although Im not sure if this source got the odachi confused with the shinden fudo ryu katana, which is large but not an odachi depending on how technical you want to get) and also some hojojutsu.
There are some old clips on youtube showing axe sparring but that's the only footage i've been able to find, and no info on techniques. I'm assuming that's knowledge not available to the public

No problem.
By the way, I've just started a blog where I'll be talking a lot about obscure weapons, hopefully some of you can correct me and provide some information when needed, I'm always wanting to learn.
