Kanji for soden waza

Greetings,

I am looking in my new Nelson guide to kanji and need the
number for the appropriate kanji for soden. Any help would be
great. Also there is a term "nebari". I found it in a kenjutsu book.
Any ideas on its meaning. Thank you.

Hello,

Obscure Bugei terms you'll almost never find in standard dictionaries, so you have to look up the kanji seperately in most cases.

My understanding of Soden is that of "inherited teachings/transmission", or teachings passed from the source directly to future inheritors. These are usually teachings that are very exclusive to the next inheritor, from my understanding.

I don't have the Nelson's handy, but another dictionary offers the following:

The kanji for "So" I believe is the one that means "source", but I'm not sure and can't verify it in the dictionary I have here.

"den" is the same kanji used in "Dento", and "Densho" meaning to "Convey, Transmit" (also known as "Tsutaeru", or "Tsutawaru").

That kanji may be correct (the "so" looks correct). Here is a photo of a book called "Gokui Soden", written from left to right in bold red kanji:

I suspect the kanji for "den" may be an older version of the kanji you have presented. Can't say for sure though without my dictionaries. :(
