Hello all...
This may already have been asked but is there anyone out there that knows of classes that train in Koryu Kenjutsu? (Thinking along the lines of Katori Shinto, Kashima shinryu, or Yagyu Shinkage, etc..) In the area of London (U.K.). I found one place that claimed to be teaching Shinryu/Aikido but apparently not under any guidance from Japan... Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks.
Hi, I've been searching without much luck for something similar in South Wales or S.W England.
Whilst there are a number of people on this forum who are active in one or another Koryu, you will find that unless the class is generally open to the public (which is rare) they are understandably reluctant to pass details to someone they do not know.
Within many of these arts passing on the contact details is an implicit reccomendation which clearly is something you would unlikely to do unless you knew an individual well.
Not to say that you won't get any help, but more to suggest that this is one of those areas where the internet is unlikely to be the answer.
Of course it could just be that I come over as complete prat and you'll get loads of replies !!
Oh and you'll definately get more help here if you post your full name (it's a rule of this forum!). The easiest way is to configure your signature and then you can forget about it.
Good luck with your search

There is a Takenouchi ryu school in London.
Write c/o 28 Ashburnham Mansions, Chelsea, London, SW10.
I believe they have training in Japan as I saw an article a few years back in the MA press which covered a visit to one of the main lines ( I cannot remember which of the two ).
I know the group has been around some time ( it was mentioned in James Shortt's book on Ryoi Shinto ryu jujutsu from 1979 along with I think four other traditional ryu that were being taught at the time in the UK). Other than that I cant say any more, as it is not my field of study. You need to contact the instructor directly.
Swordsmanship is only part of a comprehensive syllabus. Koryu.com list the skills taught on their website:-

As Rob said there are other people out there in the UK with links to Japan, but they are not going to post their details up here as they value their privacy.
I hope this is of some help.

The teacher of Takenouchi Ryu in London is a man by the name of Charles Mack. He has a lot of links to the Budokwai in London since he is supposedly high ranked in Judo and Karate. He spent a bit of time in Japan, but I don't know where and for how long.
I have tried to find out about Charles Mack for quite some time, but I haven't really been able to find anything.
Does anyone have any information?
Cheers,

When I was living in the U.K, the only information I did find about Charles Mack was in the pulp MA magazine, Combat. He had advertised in the Dojo listing.
The advertisement stated that he was a 6th Dan in Takenouchi Ryu, but it didn't state which branch of Takenouchi ryu (There are two.)
Is there anyone in the know?
