Hakama Bow

Does anyone have any pictures/information on how to tie a bow on the front of the Hakama ?

Hello,

Alot of Daito ryu people I've seen simply tie the hakama with a standard "shoe string" style bow. I've also seen this with Ueshiba Morihei sensei (aikido) in his earlier photographs.

Aikido-ka tend to either use this knot or just a standard square knot in which the straps just hang down in front.

Some people like to use a formal "cross" style bow in front, though this is a bit formal for regular keiko.

Generally, the knot tends to change depending on what kind of art you do - unarmed, short weapons and long weapons.

Just a short piece of information about the Hakama I thought you guys might be interested in.

The seven pleats of the hakama symbolize the seven virtues of
budo that are: jin (benevolence); gi (honor or justice); rei (curtesy and etiquette); chi
(wisdom, intelligence); shin (sincerity); chu (loyalty); and koh (piety).
