It was "EuroDisney", back when they were drumming up enthusiasm for investors to buy shares in the venture... now after the initial flop of the first few years it is labelled "Disneyland Paris", and is quite a distance from Paris. And Tokyo residents would caim that the Japanese version is more rightly called Chiba Disneyland, due to its remote location away from the city.
....thread drift, anyone?......
Kimpatsu

I didn't knwo they'd renamed EuroDisney, David. It's about 20 km southwest of Paris proper, isn't it?
Chiba Disney; I like it. Very droll. (And USJ in Osaka is waaayyy better.)

Well, I have to dress up for you...
I detect a strand of false logic here. Because I am always drinking in the pics, you take it to mean that I am always drinking. In truth, however, I am most likely to be phgotographed in bars because that's when everyone is relaxed enough to produce their cameras. Even if I drink only 1% of the time. 90% of the pics are taken in bars, because that's when I hold a glass up to the camera. Don't confuse cause and effect.
BTW, I'm not a closet alcoholic; I'm proud of my dependence. Better to be married to the bottle than to a nag...

Get a haircut, I thought that was girl at first.
Long hair is a serious detriment for a man to have in many ways unless you are a musician or actor. As for MA, it gets hot and sweaty as well as providing a nice handle for people to grab onto.

Nah, this is England...and where I live nothing ever happens, ask Steve Williams ;)
Can happen if you're hair is long or short, if you're hair is longer than a number 5 then you can still get good grip. Same as a shirt collar or tie.
Doesn't really matter when you think it through, if the person really wants to do you some damage then they will still ram your head into a wall no matter what. The way they do it is irrelevant.

I do recall a cage fight... There was this guy who had is long lion-manes bound in a tail. Turned out to be the most ideal handle imaginable for grabbing + elbows. He survived that one though. After a some time, he had to fight again. Did he learn from his beating? Nope, and in the following fight, I couldn't believe it, I thought his head would be empi-ed off his torso :D
Hence I took a mohawk

Maximum allowable size here is 600 X 600 pixels, so you may need to re-size your picture in your photo viewing program. Also, it has to be saved as either a .gif or .jpg file.
Then, start a post, click on "Browse," navigate to the photo's location on your hard drive, double click it to insert it in your post, and -- finally -- click "Submit Reply."
That should do it. I hope.
Right now, all I'm seeing in your post is the words "My Pic" in sky blue letters, because you have "My Pic" included in your message, where I assume you wanted a link.

I'm not Tony but I can give a short answer anyway.
It is called a manji and is a Buddhist symbol.

Happily, I have now ascended to a higher plain of consciousness where I am blissfully unconcerned by the dull tedium of his stupidity.

I've never heard of a manji referred to as a "sunburst" before. Do you know the origin of that meaning?
In Sanskrit it was a representation of the creative and destructive forces, the whirlwinds. Also, Hitler didn't "reverse" his, since it came in both clockwise and counterclockwise versions representing light/dark, male/female, life/death, etc.
In one native American culture (Navajo, I think, but don't quote me) it is the symbol of a running man.
It's too bad the Nazis gave it such a bad rap, it's really a beautiful symbol. But if you display it in many places people get the wrong idea.

That's why people need to be educated in its meaning, Brian; we shouldn't be hiding the manji, we should be proud of it. How else are we going to reclaim its true legacy from 13 years of bad rep?
IN Buddhism, you normally have two manji, ura and omote (the swastika and what we call simply the manji). They represent the dualism of light/dark, or strength and love. Thus you cannot have one without the other, for strength without love is merely violence, but love without strength is useless.
Best,

It seems to have come from Europe, from maybe around 4,000 B.C as it is common throughout many cultures. Some Manji were either 3 legged, like the Isle of Man flag, or 5 legged (or armed, depending on the way you look at it).
It is reputed to have been the image of the sun bursting with energy. Up on Ilkley Moor heading towards Burly in Wharfdale in West Yorkshire there is a place called the sunburst (Swastika) stone dating to around 2,500 - 3,000 B.C. Sadly some numbnut(s) broke the stone and Yorkshire lost a piece of ancient history. Part of it is still there, just not the manji symbol.

I agree.
But since many people do misunderstand its meaning, it is sometimes neccessary to let discretion be the better part of valor.

I don't consider the Manx symbol to be a manji, though, Will. If it has only three legs, not four, it's a different symbol.
The vandalism you describe, however, is heartbreaking. It's like the brain-dead morons who carbed their initials into Stonehenge. Many of these stelae date from approx. 5,000 years ago, and are a vital piece of Northern European history. So, of course, there's always an idiot who wants to destroy it.

I personally would rather educate than hide, Brian. Still, you have to admit the "ken"-and-shield logo is pretty cool.
FYI, from January, Shorinji Kempo is phasing out the manji lapel badge in favour of a more generic symbol. Contrary to rumour, this has nothing to do with being ashamed of the manji, or because too many people misunderstand it; the reason is that the manji-and-shield logo copyright is held by a third party, who's started demanding extra money for its use, so changing is merely a business decision.

This is the normal size for the logo, Brian; I have to reduce it to use it as an avatar, obviously. If I get bored with my ever-changing tate manji, I could go back to it, or I could go with something like this below (I like moving avatars).
Glad you like Shorinji Kempo.

How Hitler came to adopt the swastika is unclear. Various German citizens are said to have suggested it as a symbol of racial purity. Hitler was supposedly obsessed with numerology and Eastern religion and may have seen the image in Tibetan manuscripts or paintings. Regardless, the swastika's original meaning, which had endured for millennia, was diametrically altered.
In 1940, in response to Hitler's regime, the Navajo, Papago, Apache and Hopi people signed a whirling log proclamation. It read, "Because the above ornament, which has been a symbol of friendship among our forefathers for many centuries, has been desecrated recently by another nation of peoples, therefore it is resolved that henceforth from this date on and forever more our tribes renounce the use of the emblem commonly known today as the swastika . . . on our blankets, baskets, art objects, sand paintings and clothing."

That's true, Aaron; I've heard one version in which Hitler took the manji, reversed it to denote strength instead of its traditional meaning of love, peace, or friendship, tilted it to the same axis as the Earth to denote global domination, and used a red background to denote blood--both in the sense of blood spilled, and i nthe meaning of racial purity.

Yes! I can still recite all those kings in order (Edward II, Henry VII, Henry VIII, "Bloody Mary", Elizabeth I..., and yet how can we call the reigning monarch Elizabeth II of the UK, when Elizabeth I never reigned over Scotland?
As you say, Matt, it's all Civil War (Roundheads vs. Cavaliers), names of the kings and queens in order, and WWII ("we stuck it to the Krauts").

We call it "Boonie cap." I'm not sure where the name "boonie" came from. Maybe the name came from Daniel Boone.
Hey, I'm no military man, but I know a thing or two about words.
From what I understand, the "boonie cap" was named because you wore out in the boonies--the boondocks, out in the middle of nowhere. Maybe it was once also called a bush cap?
Looks like you had more to worry about than names down there, though. Otsukaresama deshita.

As a sad ham, I am not interested in the person, but more the equipment.
Well, we have four standard Motorola control heads that are connected to four microwave uplinks to four mountaintop repeaters around the Puget Sound region. Those gold "cans" are tuned duplexers that allow simultaneous transmit and receive through the same antennae on split frequency pairs. There is also one Motorola UHF for emergency use should the repeaters go down, but in our hilly terrain the range is pretty limited even with our tower height (40-foot tower and 550-foot base elevation).
I don't normally work in that room. I have a nicer office with a Motorola Centracom computer-controlled link to all that gear for day-to-day operations, and only go into "the closet" if the computer crashes or we lose power to the office.
We also have a Mobile Operations Center in a 40-foot bus that has duplicates of all the equipment in the radio room, plus its own diesel generator.
[Edit: Forget the part about the duplexers; you can't see them in the photo above. I was thinking of a different photo.]

This is me during a public demonstration of Jodo and Iaido downtown. A friends friend took me aside and shot a few staged photos. It was damn hot that day, had the sun in my eyes during all the kata.
Oh, I'm not trying to do any kind of proper Kamae, it was just showing off for the camera :p

Work sent me to Boston and I had to wear a suit. First time I've ever worn one for work. I thought I could dodge it my whole career. I was wrong. At least the IACP convention wasn't a total bust. I got tasered. LOL.

I'm not sure that E-Budo, or the world even, is ready for that much Andreas Quast...
I would expect some of those pics to be removed for the safety of the civilian population. Perhaps you might like to nominate your favourite, so that some personal choice could still remain in the matter. Otherwise, the Mods might prefer to exercise some Photoshop skills of their own, and adapt these pics to suit their own agenda... I'm thinking something along the lines of a "Joe Cocker is alive and Undead in Duesseldorf!"...;)

Both really. For a sample of my voice, here's one I did as a monologue called "Fear The Future With Statistics" when Marc was on holiday and I was running out of time for the next show!

Shows are archived here:

If you want something interesting download Deep Theta Mindsync and listen to it through headphones.

Was never really a fan of Onetribe radio. They only did a good one about NLP some time back. Personally I think it was one of their best discussions.
Anyway, back to normal mayhem.

We actually have quite a bit more in that vein ready to go. Problem is that there are substantial restrictions on what can be broadcast over the radio. It's difficult to discuss examples of (say) hypnotic induction without actually zapping some listener somewhere. Some people are *incredibly* susceptible.

Yep. They touched on that during that broadcast about halting the way people may be hypnotised over the radio. For an hours program it was a good episode to listen to. Never really listen to more, as the subject never appealed to me.

If you want to see a lot of that stuff in action go to youtube and take a look at Derren Brown.
As for the future we *might* be doing something over the Net where there are no restrictions, maybe in conjunction with the IOT.
