    Default Bokuden Ryu

    Here is the story

I have just purchased Serge Mol's book
"A complete guide to Koryu jujutsu"

So who is the current soke of Bokuden ryu ?

Is it Kaminaga Shigemi soke or Tanemura shoto
soke ? Repsect to both parties but this is
    confusing for me.

Thanks for any knowledge on this one.

    Default Thanks for info

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the fast response and info.

But I am still not clear who is SOKE of BOKUDEN RYU
    even from your comments.

    I don't know who is Kai.S or Tanaka.S but I am a
student of Brasilian Jiujitsu and have been involved
in Bujinkan on and off for a couple of years. I was
looking at Koryu jujutsu to further my training.
And Serge Mols book just spurred some thought.

    Thanks.

    Default Thanks

    Daniel,

Thanks for the comments. It helps when there is info out there.
there is no way I would have found that info by myself.

It is worth mentioning - That the Tanaka site doesn't appear legal per se - No permission from Tanaka Fumon senssei. Anyway thank you

    Smile Thanks for the sites...

    Hello Mr. Lee,
Thanks for the addresses to those two sites. Most informative...And the Densho photos on the Tanaka-San website are worth the look in themselves..(By the way...The site is not illegal. Just not authorized by Tanaka Fumon himself...This is made clear at the start).
I always love finding a little more out about these arts and the information on these sites is (Perhaps spelt badly !!) great.
Thanks for the links...If I may ask, do you study with either Kuniyuki-San or Tanaka-San?
If so I would appreciate hearing more about the training..

    Dear all,

Kai Kuniyuki Sensei (Nobeoka, Kyushu) has officially been named the 21th soke of Bokuden Ryu by Kaminaga Shigemi Soke. He became the designated 21th soke in 1997 at a ceremony and it has been re-afirmed this year by Kaminaga Soke.

Default How many lines are there?

Does this mean that there are many lines of Bokuden ryu?
Kaminaga Shigemi claims Hontai takagi yoshin ryu as well as others that Tanemura sensei does, does this mean that Ueno sensei licenced several people as soke?
    Thanks

There is Bokuden-ryû jûjutsu and Bokuden-ryû kenjutsu, I believe they are related. The jûjutsu has lost some of its material including some on weapons according to the Ueno-den booklet or Serge Mol's book. Ueno taught this style also to Satô Kinbei who in turn taught it to Tanemura. Kaminaga to Kai is the main line. Hatsumi also learned this style from Ueno. I'm sure Ueno taught it to others also.

    Hope this helps
