    Lightbulb Seattle Area Kenjutsu/Iaijutsu?

    Hi,

I've been looking around for a month or so for a dojo that focuses primarily on a form of kenjutsu (preferred) or Iaijutsu. Sadly, I have not been able to find any aside for the aikido places that will occasionally work with the sword. Do any of you know of any places that i should check out? Thanks

    Lawrence Lu

Please take notice of the discussion about Katori Shinto Ryu in the Koryu History section. You may find what you're looking for.

Scott Irey has a dojo near Seattle. He does MJER Iai. Forgetting his rank. I know he's at least 5th dan, but I could swear he received his 6th dan recently. Scott I know you're in here.

Find his dojo and stop in and watch a practice. I know you say your looking for Kenjutsu primarily, but I think you will find Irey-sensei to be quite impressive.

I meant to email you back on the Iaido-L but got side tracked. You are welcome to come check our motley crew out. We study Shinto Ryu Iai-Battojutsu (this is a gendai budo not to be confused with Katori Shinto Ryu). We only meet one day a week (early on Sat Morning!). Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions. christianmoses@hotmail.com

I also would recommend Irey Sensei, he and his students are top notch.

There are a few other things going on in the Seattle area, drop me an email and we can talk.

    Lawrence,

You would be more than welcome to swing by and watch one or our sessions. We practice in Everett if that is not too far for you.
Email me if you would liketo come by.

These are mostly kendo but they should know where the iaido is. There is excellent kendo in Seattle. I recommend Northwest Kendo Club, the head instructor (Koike-sensei) has visited our club several times for seminars.
