Searching for a Hojo Jutsu resource...

Does anyone know of any quality literature dealing with Hojo Jutsu, preferably in English that I can aquire through a book retailer?

I believe Darrel Craig had a section on Hojo-Jutsu in his book "Japan's Ultimate Martial Art, Ju-Jutsu before 1882".
I'll see what I can find.
Also our own Don Cunningham should be able to point you in the right direction.
Check out his excellent book "Secret Weapons of Ju-Jutsu".
I can say that Don, since I'm almost done reading it!

I didn't include much detail about hojo-jutsu in my book, just some historical aspects and tidbits. It certainly doesn't qualify as any "how-to" information. There are several web sites with a lot of detail. Most of them appear to be basically unauthorized translations from Yumio Nawa's book on the subject:

Forget about Mr. Craig, Get Don Angier's videos on the subject. They are the best source to learn from. Nawa's books are ok, but not good to learn from.

Might be best to just order volume 1 for now. There is enough on there to keep you busy for a long time.

I have to agree with John here. Yumio Nawa's books are interesting, but unless you understand Japanese, a bit difficult to understand. They are also nearly impossible to find now.

Don Angier's video is pretty good and live action is sometimes easier for demonstrating such techniques.

I have some tapes of Don Angier's work. He really shows the difference between a true understanding of real martial practices and the McDojo type. Great stuff.

Dear Mr. Kite,

I sign the books only if requested. Some people actually prefer their copy is not signed, so I only personalize them if the person ordering it includes a note or something to indicate they want it signed. There was no such request, and your book went into the mail this morning on my drive to work.

I will be glad to sign it if we can get together sometime. As a former resident of Raleigh, I still have many contacts there. My wife and I both love the Asheville area. Maybe you can arrange a clinic or seminar there? I would love to visit the Smokey Mountains and drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway again. Any excuse would be most welcome.

BTW, I have been planning to raise the price on my web site since the remaining hardcover books are now officially out of print, but just haven't gotten around to it. I am going to do that this weekend, so you still got your copy for the regular retail price.

Seriously though, I wish I had known, I would loved to have gotten it signed. I have a growing collection of signed MA books and this is one I'm happy to have added to the collection.
Maybe I should just order a second copy while I can.

Your local bondage people should be able to help. I am entirely serious, too, as at least one Pacific NW group was asking what it would cost to have Don Angier give seminars.
