USA Jodo Federation

Hi folks...
I thought I was going to be able to avoid this kind of stuff, but it seems to be cropping up. Please view the USA Jodo Federation website, then view the thread under the jo section here at e-budo. I'm interested in seeing if this guy is legit or not. Apparently this is a new website and new stuff in jo is rare these days.

The poll is to see if my gut reaction to this is shared by others

I dunno, these guys look legit to me. In Canada, jodo is administered through the CKF which is an IKF member org so I'm not sure why this is a seperate organisation but a quick check of the AUSKF site doesn't show support for jo. Shindo Muso-Ryu is the main (only?) jodo ryu extant. Not sure on all the history and whatnot. There's a few jodo types kicking around on iaido-l, if you're really concerned you might ask there.

It seems Sakimukai is a legitmate menkyo in Jodo and has been practicing for quite some time. Follow the thread in the jo section for details.

His website is a little flashy and light on content, which made me suspicious. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, so I am wrong there. However, when you're doing a web site for something like Jodo, I would think glitz is a bad thing.

Still, I think this thread should be moved to the Jo section, so as not to give any hint of maligning on my part.

as i mentioned in the parallel thread to this one, the kendo federations handle seiteigata, dan-grade testing, and, at least in japan, kata tournaments. the jo koryu arts take care of themselves, even if they also train in seiteigata. Sakimukai-sensei's group looks like it claims to be a koryu organization.

it's the one most commonly practised these days, but there are both other jo arts (e.g. Muhimuteki-ryu) and multi-disciplinary arts that contain a jo curriculum (e.g. Suiou-ryu Joho).
