I was wondering, who on this forum trains in shotokan karate. And if they do, what is a typical class for you?

Hello and welcome to E-Budo. Please note that membership requires you to sign with your true full name.
I train in shotokan karate, JKA version and am affiliated with Mr. Masataka Mori of NYC. Classes typically consist of kihon, kumite and kata in that order. A LOT of time is spent polishing fundamental techniques.
Where and with whom do you train?

shotokanchick,
Hello and welcome to E-Budo. Please note that membership requires you to sign with your true full name.
I train in Shotokan Karate, JKA version, under Clark Green and Frank Leonard and we are affiliated with Mikami Takayuki of New Orleans, Louisiana. Our classes begin with 30-45 minuets of kihon (We spend a ton of time on kihon) then kumite, kata and weapons training. Our weapons kata complements our Shotokan kata.
Is your teacher (Steve Flores) affiliated with Nishiyama Sensei in Los Angeles?

Hello:
I train in JKA style Shotokan with Mr. Bambouyani in Chicago. I just passed my 5th kyu exam. I've been training for a little over a year and a half.
Our classes are typically about one and a half to two hours. There are classes every day of the week. I try to go at least 2 times per week, though I'd like to be more consistent at 3 times per week. Our classes consist of the typical Shotokan format. Warm-up, stretches, calisthenics, push-up/sit-up type stuff (depending on the instructor) for about 15-30 minutes depending on the intensity. Then light kihon focusing on form and technique, followed by more intense kihon training for stamina, speed and power. Kata training and or kumite. Sometimes we'll focus a class on a specific kata, or stance/movement/breathing, self-defense or other topic.
A few weeks ago, we videotaped ourselves performing kata. That was amazing! I know I suck, but I didn't realize how much! You really get to see the disconnect between mind and body, perception and reality, watching yourself perform. I think I am sinking lower in my stances- then I watch the tape and see how high I still am!
Hope that helps! Good luck.

I was wondering what wepons everyone trains in? What is your favorate and Y? In my class we train with the bo, tonfa's and the sais.
I love the sais because they are very good for defense and offense. You can concel them so you won't gett werid looks from people like you would with the bo or tonfa's
In Ca it is illegle to carry tonfa's with out a licsnce
