Back around 1983, either Larry Beaver or Bud was selling this ninja iron on transfers. Some are for your belt, some for your BDU's, and the famous NiN for your dogi. They came in white (as shown) and also black. This might be one of the few full sheets left in the world .

Japan, 1987. I am the good looking one in the middle. The guy in the left was a Scot who later switched to the Genbukan and left that too. I think he was James Wright's first teacher.

The guy on the right is from Sweden. A drunk friend tried to trim his hair, but ruined it, so he shaved it all off...

Texas Taikai. The T-shirts were really bad, so we went into town and bought our own (bull skull). I am the guy with the beard standing next to Hatsumi S.

    You are correct Rick!

Here is one I took at a Ninja Festival. The guy on the far left is RVD.

    Hi John

Thats Tom Wakefield. He did leave the Genbukan and returned to the Bujinkan taking his Godan in 1995. Your correct he was James Wrights first Teacher when James was also a member of the bujinkan.

Tom is still active just south of Glasgow with a very small dojo.

I guess that was the trip when Sven Eric took his godan in Japan

    Paul,

Yes it was. The night before the test, I met Sven and the two Swedes on the street after they had been doing some heavy drinking. Sven had a cut on his head. He told me that he was so drunk that when he was riding his bike, he forgot to put his feet down when he stopped, and fell over!

    Hi John

Sven told me the story about the bike, and when he told me it wasnt exactly his bike. They sort of ...

    found it

he also mentioned that hatsumi knew about the incident when he took the test the night after he fel off the bike

What an excellent thread! For those of us who weren't old enough then, it's good to see what it was like "back in the day", and it definitely adds a sense of history to what is being done with the art in the west.

    Hey John..

In the pic with your beard I see Joe Maurontonio on Sensei's Left... But in the black and white pic from the festival... Is that a young shorter haired Joe Maurontonio with a Kyoketsu Sho'ge... with a full hairline on the far right!!! Haha!!!
